My sister knows
I ordered and returned a dozen quilts before committing to one. Shopping for bathroom tile was equally challenging. But a dining room table takes the cake. Even if I find one to like, after a 30 minute honeymoon phase, I find a fault. The legs are too heavy, the finish isn’t right, it’s made of engineered wood or veneers, it has grooves that might catch crumbs or it’s on the verge of being trendy. The price also has to be right because furniture, with few exceptions, does not hold its value.
My sister is no better than me. Between the two of us, we probably have 5-6 years invested in the dining room table hunt. That’s probably 3x longer than it takes to fall in love and get married. Talk about commitment issues…
Life is a series of choices. You simply can not get the wrong table.
All that said, after multiple trips to New York and endless nights and weekend of scouring the internet, we literally saw every single dining room table within this solar system. So what did we finally pick?
Mine is still in the finalization process. Hers, however is complete as shown below. She opted for a round pedestal table comprised of natural materials, a solid wood base and natural marble top (that she loves polishing!). The last pic below shows it covered with a fitted tablecloth that she employed in the table's first days in her home. The bistro chairs are rubber wood from Pottery Barn. The table is the 60” from Arhaus.
